Intro
“… human society needs intellectual freedom - freedom to receive and disseminate information, freedom to discuss impartially and fearlessly, freedom from the pressure of authority and prejudice. This triple freedom of thought is the only guarantee against infecting the people with mass myths, which in the hands of insidious hypocrites and demagogues easily turn into a bloody dictatorship. This is the only guarantee of the feasibility of the scientific-democratic approach to politics, economics and culture. ….
But freedom of thought in modern society is under a triple threat: from the calculated opium of “mass culture”, from the cowardly and selfish petty-bourgeois ideology, from the ossified dogmatism of the bureaucratic oligarchy and its favorite weapon - ideological censorship. Therefore, freedom of thought needs to be protected by all thinking and honest people.”
Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov, Reflections on progress, peaceful coexistence and intellectual freedom
For the majority of Soviet citizens, the process of partial internal self-emancipation began with mass readings of N. S. Khrushchev’s revealing report at the 20th Congress of the CPSU.

“We have lost Russia. Today the front line is the West. Until neo-communism disappears, it is impossible to return Russia to democracy...
For the European left, Soviet communism was never criminal...”

Prologue
Even if an obliging mind suggests impeccably logical and outwardly noble justifications, the voice of conscience will insist: our fall from grace began when we agreed to “peacefully coexist” with evil. …..
Everyone and everything understood, knew, guessed, but did not even want to talk about it, because they did not want to fight communism, but to survive. Survive at any cost, sacrificing conscience and common sense, innocent people and entire countries. Ultimately, with your future, because the logic of survival is based on the camp prisoner’s principle: you die today, and I die tomorrow.
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
Prologue
The military attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022 caused a wave of flight of both anti-war Russians, who realized that the abusive State, manipulatively calling itself the Motherland, would most likely decide to use them as cannon fodder, and the already established anti-regime opposition, sensitive to every bureaucratic word under which a new method of repression may be hidden.
Probably, few of those who left realized themselves to be part of a huge, continuous, but at times taking a pause, Russian emigration, which has existed as a phenomenon for more than 100 years, since the seizure of power in Russia by a gang of international terrorists in 1917, even a little earlier since the First World War 1914.
In my travels around the world, I was lucky to meet and communicate with the descendants of White Russian émigrés (which were in opposition to the Red Bolsheviks). I myself, who left Russia shortly after the announcement of a secret service agent with a faded appearance taking the place of the main ruler of the country, before meeting the ancient dynasties, I felt like a black sheep, being in a state of incomplete self-identification.
Unfreedom and subsequent future repressions were perceived by me as something obvious and already quite tangible, at a time when many Russians inertly rejoiced at the freedom received in the 90s and, for reasons unknown to me, were unable or refused to see that a new prison was being built under their noses, the new GULAG.
Communication with people who preserve the memory of older generations who left my country long before my birth helped me realize my place in global chronology, and in 2022 also to see how History really moves in a spiral.
The anti-Soviet white emigration failed to defeat either the Bolshevik regime or the nomeklatura-chekist regime - they did not return to the country, and their descendants for the most part no longer speak Russian fluently, although they are still very devoted to Russian culture.
What are the chances of success for the Russians who fled at the very last moment before the closing of the Iron Curtain and meekly agreed to someone’s blatant manipulation to be called relocants, although in fact they are political emigration of 2022-23, in a tradition that dates back more than 100 years?
The following text was written at the request of readers of my thread published on Twitter this summer and represents its highly expanded and detailed form. The thread was a commentary on a solemn gathering (it is impossible to call the party event anything else, which, of course, could not and did not lead to any socially useful and concretely tangible results) of Russian supposedly anti-war “liberals” and others like them on the territory EU institutions.
For reasons completely incomprehensible to me, almost all Russian journalists and activists prefer to ignore logic and cause-and-effect relationships and remain (personal choice) in the space of distorting mirrors.
From this space they broadcast distortion to their audience, small or large, but this is a responsibility that they apparently do not even think about. There are no ways to change the existing order of things if there is no understanding of the fundamental world order, and its constant study and reflection of dynamic meaning creation and meaning transformation.
The format of my essay goes beyond the standard format of regular articles intentionally. This is a collage of some facts and a mosaic of quotes, placed on a chronological axis. The research is not complete and must be continued and expanded. Greater detail will lead to greater understanding. Keeping my explanation and interpretation to a minimum is an exercise that everyone should learn to do for themselves.
I dedicate my work to all honest, brave people with humanitarian values, who love freedom and are ready to help their neighbors, regardless of skin color, passport or religion!
1. Bukovsky, 1976
On December 17, 1976, an armed convoy escorted one prisoner from a Soviet prison. Without providing any information, he was taken to the airport, put on a plane and flown to Switzerland.
This man was Vladimir Bukovsky and without hesitation, at the same airport he immediately organized a press conference at which he spoke in English language.
In an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, January 5, 1977, published under the title “The problem of political prisoners is indivisible and universal,” Bukovsky said “it can indeed be said that we have 250 million political prisoners.”
He will repeat this in all subsequent interviews.
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky was a consistent fighter against the deceitful Soviet system, utopian ideologies of communism and socialism, the repressive machine of “state security” that exists to destroy and suppress the population. And also an exposer of the myth of “perestroika, glasnost and pluralism”, just as a strategy for preserving power and privileges of the Soviet nomenklatura. A man who described the hypocrisy and wretchedness of Western politicians and Western pseudo-intellectuals, who were ready, either for money or for advancement in their careers, to close their eyes and turn away from the mountain of corpses, from torture in Soviet psychiatric clinics and Soviet concentration camps.
Below will be a large number of quotes, excerpts and fragments from his books, interviews and articles.
I remember how the British intelligentsia turned on me in 1978, after the publication of my book “And the Wind Returns,” precisely because I was not sufficiently respectful of Khrushchev and his “thaw.” How dare I take aim at the most sacred thing! There was no limit to the indignation, especially in the Guardian newspaper, which always knew everything better than us about our lives.
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
2. Biden, 1979
The Helsinki agreements, for all their shortcomings, contained the fundamental principle of these relations - equality and the inextricable connection of its three “baskets”: security, cooperation and human rights. They contained an extremely important recognition of the fact that Soviet external aggressiveness was inextricably linked with the anti-democratic, repressive essence of the regime, without changing which there was no point in talking about “security”, and any form of cooperation became capitulation. Economic relations turned into aid to the enemy, “cultural” relations into a tool of Soviet propaganda, and even diplomatic ones only contributed to the establishment of a false image of the Soviet Union as a “normal” state.
***
Long before the Belgrade Conference, where the implementation of the Helsinki Agreements in the fall of 1977 was supposed to be “verified,” European socialist parties met secretly, behind closed doors, in Amsterdam and decided “not to demand too much from the USSR” at this conference. And six months later in Belgrade they didn’t demand anything. The conference, on which people pinned so much hope, counting on the firm position of the West, got off with a “neutral” communiqué that did not even mention repressions in the socialist countries.
Thus was committed this betrayal, from which our movement has never fully recovered. Dozens of “Helsinki residents” went to prisons and camps, and many died there, paying with their lives for the deception called the Helsinki Accords: for the solemn promise of the West to inextricably link security, cooperation and human rights in its relations with the East.
However, they betrayed not only us and not only the idea, but also their own countries, their civilization. Ultimately - themselves: not connected with the struggle for human rights in socialist countries, the “detente” turned into a simple capitulation, and the idea of “socialism with a human face”, having sacrificed this “face”, from a utopia - into a conscious deception.
***
…..for example, the head of the Austrian socialists Bruno Kreisky, who addressed Andropov with an extremely obsequious letter:
“Friends and acquaintances have repeatedly asked me and continue to ask me to intercede for the Soviet citizen Yuri Orlov, who has been imprisoned since the beginning of 1977. (...) Of course, I am far from intending to interfere in the internal affairs of the USSR. And if I make such a request, it is only out of sympathy and with firm hope for your generosity. I believe that a magnanimous gesture in this matter at a time of increasing tension, which I know we are both very interested in mitigating, would have a positive impact.”
The assistant writes: “Yuri Vladimirovich, I believe that Kraisky’s petition for the dissident Orlov should be left unanswered.”
And below, by Andropov’s hand: “I agree. Andropov."
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
3 years after Bukovsky’s arrival in the West, US Senator Joseph Biden from the Democratic Party will come to the USSR.
The contents of Zaglyadin’s note that Biden had a special mission concerning Soviet dissidents will become known to the general public many years later.
And in 2020, on the eve of the US elections, Alexander Podrabinek, a Soviet dissident and Russian journalist, will once again recall this story 40 (!) years ago in his article:
❞
“In April 1979, several American senators, led by Senator J. Biden from Delaware, came to the USSR on an official visit. But something remained outside the protocol. What exactly was found out many years later thanks to the efforts of Vladimir Bukovsky, who created the “Soviet Archive” from the documents he obtained. ... In the fourth paragraph of the note, Vadim Zagladin writes: “It should apparently be noted that this time the delegation of senators did not officially raise the issue of human rights during the negotiations. As Biden said, they did not want to “poison the atmosphere with issues that are known to cause tension in relations.” True, during the breaks between meetings, the senators handed over several letters regarding certain “refuseniks”. Informally, Biden and Lugar said that what was ultimately important to them was not so much getting a solution to a citizen's question as it was proving to the American public that they cared about "human rights," proving to their voters that they were "effectively implementing their will." In other words, the interlocutors directly admitted that this was a kind of window dressing, that the fate of the majority of the so-called dissidents did not concern them at all. During this conversation, Biden asked to ensure that the senators’ appeals on these issues do not remain unanswered, even if this answer boils down to the fact that, they say, the letter was received, “but nothing can be done.” 2020, USA-USSR: 1979 - Bih Joe and big disregard for human rights /// The Unforgettable Sins of Joseph Biden, or the Soviet History of the 2020 Democratic Candidate (USA-URSS: 1979 - Grande Joe e grande menefreghismo dei diritti umani) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/usa-urss-1979-grande-joe-e-grande

3. Before the USSR’s end in 1991
Exactly at the same time when political prisoners in Soviet prisons and camps were subjected to the most sophisticated pressure to ideologically “neutralize” them, the West applauded Gorbachev’s humanity. When “special forces” troops killed Georgian democrats in a square in Tbilisi, crushed the Popular Front of Azerbaijan with tanks in Baku, stormed government buildings in Vilnius and Riga, the West was worried about only one thing: this shouldn’t “hurt Gorbachev.” And the financial assistance to the Kremlin “reformers” was measured in astronomical figures: over seven years of party “perestroika”, the Soviet foreign debt grew by as much as 45 billion dollars! This is the price the West paid to prevent the emergence of either real democracy or a market economy in the former USSR.
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
Gorbachev did not become a humanist when he decided to release some of the political prisoners, he simply decided to start his propaganda campaign with this. And so that we do not interfere with him, it was in the last year that the conditions of detention in the Chistopol prison and the Perm camps became especially monstrous, in order to intimidate for life and turn into cripples those who need to be released. ….
At that moment, each of us was equally useful to the authorities both as a dead person and as a political prisoner, freed thanks to the democratic and humanistic views of the Soviet leadership. The deceased had to remind the survivors that they needed to behave quietly, or better yet, immediately leave the new democracy.
Sergei Ivanovich Grigoryants’s speech at the 2nd International Conference on Human Rights. Leningrad, Crimson Dawn of the Authoritarian Era, 1990
In 2009, The Times published an article talking about secret negotiations between Thatcher and Gorbachev, which took place just before the death of the USSR.
The article caused a stir. It was based on Soviet documents that Bukovsky handed over to journalists:
❞
“In 1989, Thatcher and Gorbachev had an unusually frank conversation (which had never before been reported) ... Thatcher ... stated categorically that the West would not insist on “decommunization”, nor would it take any steps that might endanger security of the Soviet Union. ... these words contradict public statements made from the West, as well as official NATO communiqués. Thatcher advised Gorbachev not to pay attention to all this. "We don't need a united Germany," she said. “This will lead to the redrawing of post-war borders, and we cannot allow this, since such an event would undermine the stability of the international situation and put our security at risk.” 2009, Thatcher told Gorbachev that Great Britain does not want the unification of Germany (Тэтчер говорила Горбачеву, что Великобритания не хочет объединения Германии )- https://inosmi.ru/20090911/252524.html
6 days after the publication of the article in The Times, RFI published an interview in Russian with historian Pavel Stroilov, an ally of Vladimir Bukovsky, who discusses the meaning of these documents and the meaning of the behind-the-scenes games of the European nomenklatura, which, in order to preserve and expand its own power, planned to fight with “love of freedom” imitating the fight against natural disasters (proto-fight against climate change) and preventing the emergence of the “right wing”, which will lead to the collapse of a socialist united Europe:
❞
— You found documents according to which Mitterrand even proposed the creation of joint French-Russian armed brigades, under the pretext of fighting natural disasters, in order to stop the unification of Germany. Such a Franco-Soviet Ministry of Emergency Situations in the fight against love-for-freedom. — This is an entry in the diary of Chernyaev, who was Gorbachev's main assistant in international affairs. ...This was in October 1989. Chernyaev writes that Zagladin went on a business trip to France and that the entire French political elite, including even the mayors of large cities, is against the unification of Germany. ... — Mitterrand did not share the naive ideas of Margaret Thatcher, although he spoke of German "revanchism". But as his conversations with Gorbachev "behind closed doors" make clear, it was a demagogic device to mobilize public opinion in Western countries. And his real plan, together with Gorbachev, concerned the creation of a single European superpower with a socialist bias. He thought that Moscow and Paris would jointly manage this super-national association. Mitterrand speaks directly to Gorbachev about these two poles of the new confederation, which will jointly control Eastern Europe and Germany. Therefore, he did not want the unification of Germany to happen quickly and on Western terms. It was a question of power. A free, rather right-wing, powerful united Germany could not be brought under control. And Mitterrand wanted Germany to give up many of its sovereign powers in exchange for unification. The context necessary for reminder: for 70 years, Soviet people actually lived in a slavery, at the mercy of a huge state machine, in a communist “paradise”, where they were tortured, killed, for dissent and even in random rotation, their homeless children were shot or sent to concentration camps, and they could not escape. At the top of the social “food” pyramid there was a very close-knit group of criminals who seized power and for decades mercilessly destroyed any protest and attempt at betrayal. This group plundered the country and the impoverished population, sending millions of dollars to friendly cannibalistic regimes in other countries:

Remiggio) 600,000 tonnes of oil and 150,000 tonnes of diesel fuel on a normal commercial basis, but on favourable conditions at a discount of approximately one percent, and to extend the payment period by three to four months, so that our Friends will stand to gain approximately 4 million dollars from this commercial operation. 18 January 1983* (Pb 94/52) PCI funding - https://bukovsky-archive.com/2016/07/01/18-january-1983-pb-9452/
When everything had already begun to fall apart, because the usurpers could only parasitize, but could not create anything, they began to build agreements with the neighboring nomenklatura so that the banquet would continue, and they would still remain in power.
❞
“The published Kremlin documents show how history leaves us all, and especially our leaders, in the cold. ... Now we know this. The Kremlin was stumped. He lost control of events long ago, largely because Mikhail Gorbachev refused to interfere with them. ... But that’s the story – chaos and uncontrollable driving forces.” 2009, What Thatcher and Gorbachev were thinking when the Berlin Wall came down (О чем думали Тэтчер и Горбачев, когда рушилась Берлинская стена) - https://web.archive.org/web/20090914130200/https://inosmi.ru/translation/252505.html
The European and American nomenklatura at that moment opposed the independence of Ukraine:
❞
G. BUSH: I am not aware of this report. But I hope that you were informed that I emphasized the need for extreme tact in determining the program of the visit. I would be ready to visit not Kyiv, but, for example, Leningrad. I really want to visit one of your cities. But under no circumstances am I going to support separatism. Kyiv was included in the visit program only after your Foreign Minister said that you were completely satisfied with this. Of course, we have difficulties with you in the Baltic states. 4. Moscow “Nuremberg” Trial … was denied
Since 1988, similar processes of “communist privatization” have been introduced in the USSR. On the one hand, the structures of the KGB and the international department of the Central Committee create many supposedly commercial “joint ventures” with their Western “friends”; on the other hand, under the cover of the new law on cooperatives, the party-economic nomenklatura begins to take over state property, merging even more with the “shadow economy.”
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
In his book Judgment in Moscow, Vladimir Konstantinovich describes the events of the early 90s, when, on behalf of Boris Yeltsin, he took part in organizing a Trial of the Soviet party nomenklatura, similar to Nuremberg. The trial took place, but was essentially a Trial - imitation organized for show, “hearings in the Constitutional Court on the “CPSU case””
❞
Rudolf Hess died in Spandau prison, and, say, Boris Ponomarev [Ilya Ponomarev’s uncle] lives in retirement in Moscow, because National Socialism was defeated, but International Socialism was not. ….. The Nuremberg trial is not indisputable, there is something to criticize it for, but it did a great job: it restored the absolute moral standards of human behavior, reminding the confused world of the basic principle of our Christian civilization - that we have been given freedom of choice and that, therefore, we are personally responsible for this choice. In an era of mass madness and total terror, he confirmed a simple truth, known since biblical times and lost in the bloody mess of the 20th century: neither the opinion of the surrounding majority, nor the order of the authorities, nor even the threat to one’s own life relieves us of this responsibility. …… What is happening today is the exact opposite of Nuremberg. Today's world has nothing to be proud of: it has found neither the courage to resist evil nor the honesty to admit it. …… “It is necessary,” I insisted, “to create a commission to investigate all the crimes of communism, preferably an international one, in order to avoid accusations of political fraud. ... The case needs to be examined openly, that is, now, without wasting time, right under the spotlights and television cameras, as the investigation is being conducted by commissions of the US Congress.” The confused nomenklatura agreed to everything, fearing only one thing - lynching, reprisals right on the streets. The sight of “Iron Felix” dangling in a steel noose took their breath away. And, taking advantage of this situation, it was quite possible to carry out, if not the Nuremberg trials, then still something very similar, and even stronger in its moral impact on our savage world. …. …. ensuring a transition to the last, main topic - the international crimes of the CPSU and the KGB. This topic was still somewhat taboo in the USSR. Soviet people were then supposed to believe that although the communists were guilty of crimes against their people, of repression and the collapse of the economy, in foreign affairs they were “like everyone else,” no worse and no better. ... This dangerous myth, vigorously cultivated at that time by both the press and the leaders, had to be completely destroyed, dispelled to shreds, along with the mythical image of the valiant Soviet “intelligence officer,” hero and patriot. It was necessary to indicate completely unconditionally that the Soviet Union did not have a “normal” international policy, and what was called that was a crime against humanity lasting many decades. Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
In one of his many video interviews, Vladimir Bukovsky will mention that Yeltsin was banned from holding a Trial of the highest nomenklatura of the CPSU by politicians from European countries, which were seriously concerned that their names and involvement in communist crimes would become known to the world community, and that wasn’t possible to avoid once archives would be open.
❞
For Russia, this turned into a vulgar tragicomedy, in which former middle-ranking party bosses and KGB generals play the roles of the main democrats and saviors of the country from communism. All the ugliest, rotten, vile things that had been hidden for the time being in the cracks of the communist prison and survived thanks to the complete atrophy of conscience came out onto the stage. These are those who in thieves's jargon are called "jackals": while the real thieves are in the cell, they are not seen or heard, they sit out somewhere under the bunks. But then the thieves left for the stage, and immediately the “jackals” showed up, went on a rampage, cheated, and restored their order. Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
And in 1996, Bukovsky was banned from entering the country.
.
5. “Do you want it to be like in the 90s?” - The 90s are the starting point of putinism.
They lied, twisted around, got off with slogan phrases, but they could not simply and clearly explain why this “detente” was needed. But it is impossible to explain why, for example, to supply - with loans, goods, technology - a totalitarian regime that has openly declared the goal of its existence to be your destruction. There are no arguments in human logic to justify this. All that remained was to lie. ….
- So we will tie them to ourselves, make them economically dependent on the West and - we will influence.
But the time came to “influence” - as was the case with the USSR’s violation of the Helsinki Accords or the invasion of Afghanistan - and suddenly it became clear: “we depend on them more than they depend on us.” It turns out that we cannot declare a boycott or embargo on them, but, on the contrary, they may well be able to economically blackmail the West. What is this - stupidity? Accident? Neither one nor the other, because right there, without taking a breath, they proposed to become even more dependent on the USSR, for example, by building a pipeline for Soviet gas to Europe. …. What was that - stupidity? cowardice? No - betrayal.
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, Judgment in Moscow, 1996
❞
Famous Russian dissident Pavel Stroilov, who copied Gorbachev's archive, exposes perhaps the biggest hoax of the 20th century “...in 1989-1991 the Kremlin began to create the European Socialist Union. They figuratively called the plan, which Mikhail Gorbachev agreed in advance with François Mitterrand: “Europe, our common home” - a slogan that in 1990 was engraved on all the fences of Chisinau. ….. The Soviet leader and the French president often revealed in their conversations that Eastern Europe had to be sandwiched between the European Union and the Soviet Union in order to remain under the Kremlin's influence. The revival of the Soviet Union took place, Stroilov and Bukovsky believe, through the hidden KGBization of the new Russia. Through the infiltration of security officers into post-Soviet power structures, which allowed them to control money, the economy, the judicial system, the media and the scientific world. …….Hiding behind the back of the gravedigger Yeltsin, the special services gave a new formula not only to the Evil Empire, but also to the Comintern. And this is no coincidence. Communism is a perfect and unsurpassed chameleon. It has existed at all times in different ways: as a totalitarian doctrine, as an international movement, as a political regime. Despite the clothes he wears, communism was a mafia. In other words, a secret terrorist organization, we read in the dictionary, practicing blackmail and murder. Since Lenin, Bolshevism has always been a bunch of interlopers. A gang of gangsters. A squad of murderers who deprived property, hatched conspiracies, killed in order to eventually seize power, first in one country, and then in almost half the countries of the world. He ruled with the same old and proven methods that he used in the struggle to seize power: terror, intimidation, propaganda. Like any other immortal mafia, the USSR was reborn in the shelter of putin’s security service. To use the idiom of the Chinese comrades, corporate capitalism, Russian communism is controlled directly by Russia and indirectly, but through the same neo-KGB networks, by the former Soviet republics. Having thoroughly strengthened over the past two decades, it wants to reincarnate into a new USSR called the Eurasian Community.“ 2012, The Evil Empire is coming! In November 1991, the Danish newspaper Extra Bladed published revealing material that money transferred by Moscow to the Danish communist newspaper Land og FolK had disappeared without a trace. Quite a lot has been written about how the CPSU helped foreign communist parties and the scheme is well known. The last payments were already made in the summer of 1991. But after the August putsch, the money simply did not reach the Danes - from 150 to 200 thousand dollars. They apparently ended up in the pockets of intermediaries. The Danes wanted to write complaints to the international department of the Central Committee, but they were joyfully told: ku-ku! write, write! There is neither a department nor a Central Committee of the CPSU. 200 thousand is just for little Denmark. And the other, summer, 1991, money? “In August 1990, the Central Committee apparatus compiled a top-secret document called “Note” (...), which proposed large-scale entry of the party elite into the international financial market. The “note” was presented to Deputy Secretary General Ivashko, who, having accepted the proposal set out in the note, responded to it as follows:
“All party cadres who are entrusted with such commercial activities are required to set themselves the task of studying commercial affairs. They must act covertly and secretly in order to exclude any connection between this activity and the Central Committee.”
At the beginning of September 1990, the Secretariat of the Central Committee adopted a secret decision recommending, in order to preserve the necessary party structure, the rapid penetration of the elite into international financial markets... At the end of 1990, the Central Committee began to create commercial banks for laundering.

The 90s must be viewed in two sharply contrasting aspects: the appalling poverty of millions of ordinary citizens who did not really understand what and how to do with freedom after 70 years of slavery, and they struggled to survive. And as a time of miracles, which again opened up incredible opportunities for the party communist nomenklatura, which since 1917 had been a privileged class and had well-developed skills and a long tradition of brazenly seizing property that did not belong to them:

Yeltsin was no exception: on January 14, 1992, he signed a decree “On the Protection of State Secrets of the Russian Federation,” which restored almost all secrecy standards of the former USSR.
In a word, my idea of a “historical Nuremberg”, worthy of ending the greatest war in the history of mankind, died without being born. Insignificant officials, almost non-humans, who by pure chance found themselves in high Russian chairs, now indulged their petty vanity by disposing of what they did not have the slightest moral right to: our heritage. Those who spent their worthless lives sitting in party committees forbade us, who bore all the hardships of the great battle, to know the truth about our lives.

The beginning of a court ceremony in New York to confess former Bank of New York vice president Lucy Edwards and her husband Peter Berlin to financial abuse and money laundering indicates that the main targets of the investigation are more senior bank employees. Lucy Edwards was responsible at BONY only for those suspicious transfers that went through the companies of her husband Peter Berlin. And if she specialized in the little-known Sobinbank and Flamingo, then higher managers were responsible for interaction with large banks - such as Inkombank, Menatep and others. The promotion of Inkombank to the forefront of the BONY scandal will probably be unexpected for the Russian public. A civil trial has been launched in the United States, in which the shareholders of Inkombank, which was recently declared bankrupt, are going to prove that the management of BONY in every possible way defended the interests of this bank in American financial circles and did not oppose the unjustified transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars offshore. So, in 1996, the Central Bank of Russia ordered an audit of Inkombank. The results of the audit were stunning: the auditors noted total theft of funds and a flagrant violation of banking legislation. Notices of the results of the audit in March 1996 were sent to all financial institutions where the bank had correspondent accounts, including BONY [Bank of New York]. But these signals were not noticed there. …… Another question is whether Washington is interested in “surrendering” the oligarchs raised with Western help to the Kremlin? If US intelligence agencies from the very beginning monitored transactions with Russian money at the Bank of New York to determine their legality, then they may not want to so easily part with compromising evidence regarding the “smeared” Russian bankers. 2000, The real Russia-Gate is yet to come (Настоящий "раша-гейт" еще впереди) - http://www.og.ru/mat/sd1.shtml

Former director of the European Department of the IMF John Odling-Smee argues that the leaders of the G7 countries and specifically the United States in the 90s forced the fund to provide loans to Russia in order to politically support Boris Yeltsin. In the 90s the IMF provided loans to Russia in the amount of about $16.5 billion. The G7 countries (USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan) in the 90s. set conflicting objectives for the IMF. On the one hand, the fund was supposed to help reform the Russian economy in accordance with its standards. But on the other hand, sometimes the leaders of the G7 demanded that the IMF issue loans to Russia in order to provide political support to then President Boris Yeltsin. So says the former director of the IMF's European department, John Odling-Smee (1992-2003), in his report recently published on the fund's website. “At the same time, the economic policy of the Russian authorities as a whole or individual projects did not meet IMF standards,” writes Odling-Smee. The contradictory approaches were especially clear in US policy. According to Odling-Smee, the US Treasury Department maintained a hard line on following IMF standards, while the State Department, on the contrary, “attached greater importance to political problems. ”In general, the former director states, the Bill Clinton administration (1993-2001) supported the position of the Ministry of Finance, but sometimes “showed impatience.” For example, in December 1993, Vice President Al Gore, during a visit to Moscow, publicly complained about the harshness of the IMF conditions. As former Deputy Minister of Finance and former First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Aleksashenko says, the Odling-Smee report “to a certain extent” corresponds to reality. According to him, in reality the controlling stake in the IMF belongs to “one big country [the United States].” “It is obvious that the United States could form a position on the board of directors where everything is decided by consensus,” says Aleksashenko. 2004, How the IMF helped Yeltsin (Как МВФ Ельцину помогал) - http://www.vedomosti.ru/newspaper/article.shtml?2004/10/06/81741

And if it were possible to prove the connection between the fact that a few became millionaires and the fact that millions died prematurely, it would turn out that thieves are at the same time also bloodsuckers. 1999, Minkin Alexander, Theft is a deferred murder (Минкин Александр, Воровство – это отложенное убийство) - https://pub.wikireading.ru/83708

Before the default, as of July 27, this account had only $400 million. And by August 24, during the rampant default, the account had grown to $21.5 billion, including the IMF tranche. On the same day, the Bank of New York account was emptied of up to $300 million. Where did the $21.1 billion go?... And it’s also interesting that after August 1998, the Central Bank of Russia provided a number of banks with loans totaling 35 billion rubles. They were capitalized, and the debt was immediately covered by Central Bank bonds, which generally lost their price on August 17. It was the Central Bank that accepted this form of debt repayment, it was the Central Bank that ensured the transfer of the loan amount into dollars, which turned out to be 5.7 billion “greens”. All these strange operations could succeed only under one condition: the depreciation of Russian bonds and the ruble. And so it happened, the default, which crippled the destinies and lives of millions of compatriots, was planned and carefully thought out by Kremlin officials, they filled their pockets to the full. 2002, WHERE DID THE $4.8 BILLION IMF LOAN DISAPPEAR FROM RUSSIA? If someone suddenly does not remember, does not know, was not yet born in the 90s and has no idea what was happening in the country, the robbery of resources by oligarch bandits can learn from Anna Politkovskaya’s article about Kremlin oligarch Roman Abramovich, how he stole oil, not paid taxes and pressed poor Siberians.

Exactly a year ago, at house N.85 on Oktyabrskaya Street, just opposite the windows of the local FSB department, a memorial plaque was erected, announcing to the people the good news about the registration in the village of one of the most powerful oil companies in the world - Sibneft, led by its famous co-owner Roman Abramovich, sponsor No. 1 of the current “Royal Family” ..... Who would have thought that the main (from a legal point of view) office of the great and powerful oil empire is actually the Sibneft sign above the door, the jamb and the door itself. And nothing more. .... As you understand, every fiction costs its money. Therefore, the natural question is: how much it cost to Sibneft to so blatantly rubbish the tax authorities? ..... In total, royalties from the oil empire in Lyubino reached 30 million rubles - and this is 70% of the annual regional budget! .... — But why do you officially have such a low average salary in the region? Only 456 rubles? After all, this is where all the Sibneft employees are registered! Are their salaries on paper really as meager as those of livestock farmers? The malicious question falls into silence Now combine 2+2: 30 million from Lyubino - and 227.5 of Omsk! Re-registration in the countryside became an excellent commercial deal for Sibneft.... And Omsk should have realized: Leonid Polezhaev is first of all the governor of Sibneft in the region, and only then the governor. “A real information war was launched against the mayor,” says Omsk journalist Sergei Shkaev. “They began to harass him from the screens of regional state channels, fed by the same Sibneft.” Many of those whom I managed to meet in Omsk said the same thing: most people are in panicky fear of possible persecution and are afraid to speak freely. No word anywhere can touch the “sacred” - “Sibneft”, even on the phone. 1999, Anna POLITKOVSKAYA, IF THE ENEMY IS NOT FOR SALE, HE IS DESTROYED // Anna Politkovskaya: Se il nemico non si vende - loro lo distruggono - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/anna-politkovskaya-il-nemico-non-si-vende

And again there: "Leonid Dyachenko, Yeltsin's son-in-law, heads a company that trades petroleum products - East Coast Petroleum. Its subsidiary is Belka Trading, which is related to the contract for the publication of Yeltsin's book." And this is the New York Times: "Mr. Reni said that his bank has business relations with approximately 160 Russian banks, through whose accounts 3.7 billion passes daily." And this is the Wall Street Journal: The most active accounts - more than $5 billion since 1996 - belong to Benex, which is run by Peter Berlin, who is married to senior bank official Lucy Edwards. Mr Reney said the accounts were recommended to the bank. Ms. Edwards was recently fired for signing on behalf of the bank two control accounts for Peter Berlin without informing the bank's management... Mr. Reney reported that these accounts were initially characterized by activity consistent with that described by Peter Berlin small business in which he is engaged. But gradually the transactions passing through these accounts reached a level far beyond his business: from 100 to 250 million dollars." (Dyachenko’s accounts came through this company.) ….. Moreover, keeping silent about this and realizing that most people would not voluntarily accept their utopias, they deliberately strengthened Soviet influence, which they carried out in secret from the people, allies, and partners in various government coalitions. Like some among our intelligentsia who, with naive self-confidence, played games with the KGB “we are smarter than them, we will beat them,” European social democracy got involved in secret games with Moscow and, of course, got confused.
In Moscow, of course, they were only too happy to accept these games: if the Bolsheviks have learned anything in their history, it is to use the Mensheviks for their intended purpose.

18. April 2003 - Assassination of Sergey Yushenkov
On April 17, 2003, Sergei Yushchenkov was killed. A few months earlier, his friend, Deputy Golovlev, was killed.
Deputy Sergei Yushchenkov participated in the work of the public commission to investigate the explosions of residential buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk in 1999.
2 months before his murder, the Public Commission made the following announcement:
Members of the Commission to investigate the explosions of houses in Moscow and Volgodonsk and the conduct of exercises in Ryazan agreed to publish the results of the Commission’s work in a detailed report in 1.5-2 months, sending it to the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the European Parliament and the Commission headed by Vanessa Redgrave, making preliminary conclusions. ..... 1. The course of the investigation showed that the authorities lied and continue to lie to the public, as evidenced by numerous contradictions in the statements of the official investigative bodies. 2. The authorities did not care about the fate of the victims, without providing them with practically any material assistance and without even moral support. 3. Recent events related to the hostage-taking in the theater center on Dubrovka have shown that Russian society is still not immune from this kind of tragedies, in which the special services are also involved. The lack of civil, and primarily parliamentary, control over the actions of the intelligence services is a serious threat to public safety, because these services, under the guise of fighting terrorism, defend their narrow departmental interests. 02/28/2003, SERGEY KOVALEV’S COMMISSION ACCUSES THE AUTHORITIES OF LIES (КОМИССИЯ СЕРГЕЯ КОВАЛЕВА ОБВИНЯЕТ ВЛАСТЬ ВО ЛЖИ) - http://www.terror99.ru/commission/28febr2003.htm
A year before the murder, Sergei Yushenkov speaks at the J. Kennan Institute in Washington.
In March 2002, he smuggled to Russia 900 cassettes of the film “Attempt on Russia,” filmed by the French Jean-Charles Deniau and Charles Gazelle.
Also his friends were: Novodvorskaya, Litvinenko...
And this became possible precisely in many respects to the democratic system that has been functioning in the United States for many decades and even centuries. We are talking, first of all, about establishing a fairly coherent system of civilian control over the activities of law enforcement agencies and, above all, the intelligence services. And Charles Deniau’s film, in my opinion, clearly showed the virtual absence of any system of civilian control over the activities of the intelligence services in Russia. And this is the third reason, the reason related to the fact that in democratic states a system of civilian control should generally be established. .... Our attempts in parliament, in the State Duma, to create a commission to investigate the events [house explosions] that occurred in September 1999 were unsuccessful. For citizens of the United States of America, this seems surprising because the Senate and Congress as a whole, in general, have all the necessary capabilities to conduct independent investigations into a public event. Speech by Sergei Yushenkov at the John Kennan Institute Washington, April 24, 2002 (Discorso di Sergei Yushenkov al John Kennan Institute Washington, 24 aprile 2002) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/lopposizione-russa-17-aprile-2003
An interesting point to think about from his Wikipedia page, for which confirmation is needed: in January 2002, State Duma deputy Sergei Yushenkov, representing the leadership of “Liberal Russia”, left the parliamentary faction “Union of Right Forces”.
Sergey Yushenkov named the reason for leaving “the impossibility of continuing to be part of the SPS faction, which generally supports the policy pursued by the country’s leadership to actually build a police-bureaucratic regime in Russia.” The members of the Union of Right Forces at that time were: Boris Nemtsov, Leonid Gozman, Vladimir Kara-Murza (Jr.), Boris Nadezhdin (!), Khakamada, Gaidar, Chubais and Kiriyenko.
On May 23, 2003, Belkovsky’s report “State and Oligarchy” was published. The report was done very well. I recommend reading:
The oligarchic layer was formed outside the framework of market mechanisms. The conclave of oligarchs was created on the basis of the Kremlin's subjective made in 1993-1999. The basis for the formation of the oligarchic conclave was the process of privatization: the presidential government transferred the most attractive properties (primarily industrial and infrastructure) on Russian territory to the subjects of this conclave almost free of charge. .... It should be noted that, taking into account the above, the model of functioning of the oligarchy in Russia is approaching the Venetian Republic of the XIII–XVIII centuries. ... The strategy of the Venetian oligarchy in relation to the poorest segments of the population consisted mainly of bribery (carnival distribution of social bonuses - “gifts”), providing a spectacular and entertaining complex of social life (famous carnivals, which also had foreign policy functions of demonstrating power), ... The oligarchic layer in modern Russia has developed a certain system of basic values. This system, with a certain degree of accuracy, can be called anti-national. ... It should also be noted that the families of most oligarchs permanently live outside of Russia, and their heirs study abroad. There is much to indicate that the majority of the oligarchy does not connect personal and family strategic interests with Russia as a geopolitical and ethnocultural entity. The continuation of the large-scale export of capital outside Russia is explained not only by the peculiarities of the country’s investment climate, but also by the basic ideas of the oligarchy about personal or family strategy. This strategy is usually associated with the West and almost never with Russia. Representatives of the ruling layer of modern Russia are inclined to believe that the interests of the majority of the people should not be taken into account at all when forming / formulating state strategy and a system of corporate strategies, since the Russian people (and this, according to the ideologists of oligarchic capitalism, has been proven, in particular, by Joseph Stalin) is supposedly inherent unlimited patience with overwhelming force. 2003, Stanislav Belkovsky, "State and Oligarchy" (Predators from KGBistan: 26 maggio 2003 - Il rapporto sullo Stato e l'Oligarchia) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/predators-from-kgbistan-2003-lo-stato-oligarchia
After 20 years, in 2023, we see live how putin’s most important oligarchs and officials do not fall under EU sanctions, or how they easily lift these sanctions, using hastily written advertising articles by lobbyists (“geopolitical experts”) from Brussels.
Details are emerging about how all these years, servile Western experts and bankers carefully hid, covered, laundered and re-registered to children and ex-wives millions and billions of euros and dollars stolen from Russian citizens and taken out of the country.

In 10 years an article will be published:
A whole generation has already grown up of those who know little about Yuri Petrovich Shchekochikhin. Because even those whom he considered his friends are bashfully silent about him. .... He died on July 3, 2003. It was a terrible death. In two weeks, a man who was in his early fifties turned into a very old man (the effect of instant aging - doctors will explain later). One by one, all the internal organs failed, the skin came off in clumps, hair fell out, the whole body burned as if it had been burned, and it was impossible to breathe, because it seemed like molten metal was entering the lungs and nasopharynx. ..... Shchekochikhin’s friends, those who did not hide under a snag, Novaya journalists, demanded an investigation. In vain. Deputy Prosecutor General Biryukov personally refused (and remember this word). ❞
In the first days of the new year, diplomatic Europe once again recently demonstrated cynical loyalty to its double standards in what is commonly called human rights. It is well known that our authorities actually do not allow foreign journalists into Chechnya - group tours to the war do not count, when you can go there only under military escort and the control of members of the presidential administration. ... It was in this spirit that hundreds of influential Europeans - politicians, journalists, parliamentarians, diplomats - told me personally: they say, “we don’t know,” that’s why we don’t react .... However, the point is that we “know”. And we even “know” perfectly well. There were and are gentlemen in Europe who know. The official “eyes and ears” of Europeans were constantly in Chechnya. And Europe, more precisely, the political and bureaucratic part of it, had to be enlightened about the Chechen problems. These “eyes and ears” are, first of all, those people who hold the mandates of official international observers on behalf of the main pan-European organizations (the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe). By name - this is Lord Judd, a British person and former Minister of Navy to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (mandate of the Council of Europe), and Jorma Inki, a Finnish diplomat in the service of the Portuguese government and, until January 1, the head of the permanent OSCE observer mission in the Chechen Republic , or, as he liked to call himself, “just a Finnish grandfather” awaiting retirement... ….. I, a journalist, cannot approach Lord Judd. There is an unbreakable ring of military men around him, and he sees this ring perfectly well, he is fully aware that it serves as a filter of information... But he NEVER does anything to break this ring (he himself told me about this). Never. And nothing. Why? Lord Judd is feel more calm this way... ... someone has profit from silence. Both the OSCE and the Council of Europe. And there is no point in hiding behind beautiful constructions: in Chechnya there was a profanation of European mandates. With a high degree of probability, YUKOS may soon sell its majority stake in the only oil refinery in the Baltic states. Several of the world's largest oil companies have expressed interest in acquiring Yukos' stake in Mazeikiu Nafta. Last March, Yukos's tax and legal problems in Russia began to impact its ability to supply MN with the volumes of oil required by its agreement with the Lithuanian government. Sensing that MN would soon be put up for sale, senior executives from some of the world's largest oil companies, including TNK-BP, Gazprom, KazMunayGas, PKN Orlen, LUKOIL and ConocoPhillips, visited Lithuania in May and June. Deputy Minister Eidukevičius told us that the Lithuanian government plans to renegotiate certain technical agreements with the potential buyer... in a way that takes into account the interests of the Lithuanian government - mainly ensuring uninterrupted supplies of crude oil to the refineries. 8. The question may arise again: has anyone seen and understood all these murders, arrests and other horrors outside of Russia?
Yes, of course, for example, there is such a report from the State Department, after reading it one will be shocked:
❞
... however, there continued to be credible reports that the federal armed forces engaged in unlawful killings in Chechnya. There also were credible reports that the armed forces used indiscriminate force at various times in the Chechen conflict in areas with significant civilian populations, resulting in numerous deaths … The press and media NGOs reported that unknown parties killed a number of journalists, presumably because of the journalists' work … A prominent Duma Deputy and Liberal Russia party co-Chairman, Sergey Yushenkov, was shot to death on April 17. Yushenkov had been an outspoken critic of the Putin Administration on a number of issues, and he was engaged in rivalry for leadership within his own party. A number of observers charged that the professionally executed killing was politically motivated. …. Yuri Shchekochikhin, a Member of the Duma and deputy editor of Novaya Gazeta, died in July under mysterious circumstances. Along with Yushenkov, he had begun to investigate charges of FSB responsibility for a series of 1999 apartment building bombings at the time of his death. ... Prisoners' rights groups, as well as other human rights groups, documented numerous cases in which law enforcement and correctional officials tortured and beat detainees and suspects. ... Although there was no indication of a return to the widespread use of psychiatric methods against political prisoners, an NGO cited Sergey Volkov, whom the authorities described as a specialist in "sects," as stating that approximately 10 Jehovah's Witnesses were in the psychiatric hospital in Penza, where doctors were trying to "return to them their mental health." Human rights activists, including Yuriy Savenko, head of the Independent Psychiatric Association of Russia, charged that political considerations had influenced a psychiatric evaluation supervised by the Ministry of Health that led to the determination that Platon Obukhov, a diplomat charged with espionage, was mentally ill. .... Low salaries and lack of prestige continued to make it difficult to attract talented new judges and contributed to the vulnerability of existing judges to bribery and corruption. Working conditions for judges remained poor and lacking in physical security, and support personnel continued to be underpaid. ... According to the Russian Supreme Court, qualification commissions dismissed 68 judges and ordered disciplinary action for over 220 judges during the year. ... The Constitution provides for freedom of speech and of the press; however, government pressure on the media persisted, resulting in numerous infringements of these rights. ... Five of the six national, and more than 20 percent of the 35,000 registered local, newspapers and periodicals remained in private hands; however, the Government attempted to influence the reporting of independent publications. Only approximately one-fourth of the 750 television stations in the country remained in private hands, and the Government indirectly influenced most private media companies through partial government ownership of federal and local-level commercial structures, including the gas monopoly Gazprom and the oil company Lukoil, which in turn owned large shares of media companies. ... A number of journalists were beaten, killed, or reported missing for reasons that may have been associated with their journalistic activities. The journalists had published critical information about local governments and influential businesses or reported on crime and other sensitive issues. According to the Moscow-based Glasnost Defense Foundation, 10 journalists were killed during the year under mysterious circumstances, and 96 were physically attacked. How Russians lived in Chechnya among the ruins - on 900 rubles a month:
❞
Goryachka is a place in Grozny where bandits, with or without uniform, take and dump people they have executed. And that’s why usually few people come here just like that; Also, someone's corpses are constantly being found here - and the appearance of a new person is automatically associated with upcoming tragedy. It is on Goryachka that several Russian families live. They came together in one house for the sole purpose of supporting each other and not perishing alone. There is such a breed of our people: for the sake of others - everything. What about yourself? Klara Georgievna was not even able to achieve guardianship over Nastenka ... And this means that the wretched Russian child benefit also does not apply to the girl. 900 rubles—grandmother’s pension—is all they have in life. 2004, Anna POLITKOVSKAYA, BLACK FEVER OF GROZNY (Anna Politkovskaya: La Goryachka nera di Grozniy) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/anna-politkovskaya-la-goryachka-nera

And again we ask the question: the war in Chechnya, murders, arrests and other horrors were visible outside Russia. Has anyone tried to do something?
The European bureaucracy was allegedly trying to do something, let's call it like this.
3 articles about Finland:
❞
Akhmed Zakayev, Aslan Maskhadov’s special representative in Europe, who has political asylum in the UK, was supposed to be in Helsinki on January 20 and 21 at the invitation of the Finnish parliament. It didn’t work out - Zakayev couldn’t fly to Helsinki. A few hours earlier, the Minister of Justice of Finland, Johannes Koskinen, informed the head of the Green faction... that he, the Minister of Justice, did not guarantee Zakayev’s security from Russian intelligence services on Finnish territory. Let us emphasize: the minister could not give guarantees that Zakayev, who arrived in Helsinki, would not be immediately, on the airfield, transferred by officers of the Russian special services to a Russian plane that would have flown specially for him, which would take him for interrogation at Lefortovo, and not to the Finnish Parliament for free debate. For Finland, of course, this is a huge scandal - indeed, the question arises: who is the boss in it? Still, Russian special services? Or the Finnish government? In Helsinki, political Europe continued to divide into fans of putin's line (in Chechnya) and opponents of this line. It turned out that the divide runs along a dotted line: the European Parliament - the Council of Europe. The European Parliament is for a peaceful negotiation process with the participation of civil organizations in Russia. And the structures of the Council of Europe are for dialogue, but under Kremlin control. 2005, Anna POLITKOVSKAYA, FSB EQUIPPED ITS HELSINKI GROUP (Anna Politkovkaya, FSB ha equipaggiato il suo Gruppo Helsinki) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/anna-politkovskaya-la-storia-sullamicizia

Russia is quite obviously advancing on Europe—naturally, bureaucratic Russia. It is blackmailing the continent with gas. Or with oil. Then he threatens with international terrorism, which has built a nest in the North Caucasus - and therefore do not touch it. And what is the answer? On February 1, the leading Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat (owned by the same Finnish publishing concern that recently bought the Russian publishing house Independent: the Vedomosti and Moscow Times newspapers, Men's Health magazines and the domestic Cosmopolitan) published an interview with the Minister of Justice Finland by Mr. Johannes Keskonen. Let us remind you: this is the same minister who in January became the central figure taken under the protection of our, Russian, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (on January 24, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs even issued a special note-commentary on this matter, accusing our newspaper of offending the chief lawyer of Finland misinformation). 2005, Anna POLITKOVSKAYA, HOW EUROPE REACTS TO CHECHNYA (Anna Politkovskaya, Come l'Europa reagisce alla Cecenia) - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/anna-politkovskaya-la-storia-sullamicizia

Human Rights Watch (HRW), one of the most influential international human rights organizations, published its report and published comments on it, which are that the information about human rights broadcast by the official Kremlin is “egregious.” I mean, blatantly false. And that crimes against humanity in Russia are obvious. The report and comments are a very serious application to the International Tribunal. To The Hague for Putin (collective). HRW allowed itself such harsh comments for the first time during all the years of the second Chechen war. .... According to HRW, the place where official Russia commits crimes against humanity is Chechnya. There is the root of the problems spreading throughout the country. The main problem is that the intelligence services - that is, government employees financed by the budget - continue to kidnap people, torture and kill them without trial. That is, this scheme is a scheme of state terrorism, this time described not just by journalists, whom the Kremlin spits on, but by an international human rights consortium, whose opinion is especially respected in the UN, OSCE, European Union and other serious institutions. .... .... who left the hall in protest against the blatant lies about what is happening in Chechnya? Who got up and left so as not to cover themselves with the shame of complicity? .... And this is exactly what Rachel Denber, head of HRW's Europe and Central Asia department, says in her commentary: “To look the other way while crimes against humanity are being committed is unconscionable.” 2005, Anna POLITKOVSKAYA, LIST OF THOSE WHO WAS MISSING // The human rights organization HRW released a report on kidnappings in Chechnya. 43 specific cases. “As the leaders of the world's leading industrialized democracies pack their bags for the G8 summit in St. Petersburg, former KGB lieutenant colonel vladimir putin, who hosted the meeting, hastily pushed two new pieces of legislation through the State Duma. Firstly, we are talking about a law that allows him to use special services as “death squads” to eliminate “extremists” abroad (including in our country [UK]). Secondly, an amendment to the current law on combating “extremism” was adopted, greatly expanding the definition of this “criminal activity”: now, among other things, “slanderous” statements about the putin administration are considered manifestations of extremism. Thus, all conditions have been created so that any critic of the putin regime living in the UK, especially if he is involved in the campaign against the genocide unleashed by Russia in Chechnya, can become directly acquainted with the poisoned umbrella [the authors allude to the murder of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in London in 1978, for which an umbrella with a poisoned needle was used - approx. lane]. As Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said, a “black list” of people to be eliminated has already been drawn up. 23. September 2006 - Assassination of Andrey Kozlov
On September 14, 2006, First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Andrei Kozlov was killed along with his driver. He was investigating thefts on a particularly large scale. 200 billion dollars were stolen and taken outside the country:
❞
A crusading Russian official traveled to Estonia in the summer of 2006 to warn the authorities that an unprecedented money-laundering scheme had been established in the tiny Baltic financial sector. The scam he had uncovered would go on to become the biggest dirty-money operation in history: the $200 billion Danske Bank scandal. Crooked beneficiaries of the illicit multibillion-dollar scheme to transfer money out of Russia included a member of vladmir putin’s family and agents from the KGB’s successor, the FSB, according to a leaked report drawn up by a bank insider. When he got to Tallinn, Kozlov told Andres Palumaa, the head of anti-money-laundering at Estonia’s Financial Supervision Authority (FSA), that the proceeds from tax evasion and money-laundering in Russia were being passed through the financial system that he oversaw. Kozlov demanded the closure of several specific accounts. “Palumaa said that after Kozlov’s warning, the FSA followed up with their Russian counterparts in Moscow, but the Russians said that they had no information to substantiate Kozlov’s accusations,” the cable reads. In other words, soon after their meeting in June, Palumaa flagged up Kozlov’s anti-corruption operation to the authorities back in Moscow. 200 billion dollars.
Perhaps this figure does not reach your consciousness.
200,000,000,000 DOLLARS in 2006
Just one investigation, one person who was murdered in cold blood.
Question: HOW MUCH MONEY WAS STOLEN AND TAKEN OUT OF THE COUNTRY???
WHY ARE THERE NO INVESTIGATIONS???
WHY ARE THERE NO SUSPECTS???
WHY ARE THERE NO COURTS???
WHY IS THIS NOT SPOKEN DAY TO DAY, EVERY DAY, AT EVERY CROSSROADS, IN EVERY FAMILY, until it becomes known to absolutely everyone and each citizen of Russia???
This is money was stolen from grandparents who live in poverty and cannot pay rent or buy food and medicine.
This money was stolen from children for whom kindergartens, specialized schools, swimming pools, sports and science centers, music schools, children's theaters, libraries and schools of creative development were not opened.
This is money was stolen from disabled people who cannot be given prosthetics, operations or wheelchairs.
This money was stolen from orphans to whom the state should have provided apartments.
This money, stolen from each and every person who drives along crooked, broken roads or off-road, who comes to shabby hospitals, who sends SMS to help buy expensive medicine for a dying child, and so on - the list can be continued indefinitely, but there will be no point in reading it just once and forgetting it after 5 minutes.

The Cold War is not over, lies prevail over history... …. When Yuri Andropov, who headed the KGB longer than his predecessors, reached the top of the pyramid of Soviet power, the praise of the Western media had no end. They claimed that he was a 'secret liberal', that he loved jazz and cognac, that he even spoke English. Then it turned out that all this was not true - a figment of the imagination of the Western elite. But why should one be so enthusiastic about a man whose job for 15 years was to kill people, even if he actually could speak English and preferred cognac to vodka? Wouldn't it be more natural to feel at least a little uneasy as we watched this man take the helm of the Soviet empire? ….at the end of 1999, when Yeltsin announced his resignation and proclaimed the almost unknown KGB lieutenant colonel vladimir putin as his heir. Familiar faces appeared on television screens around the world, expressing incredible delight at the emergence of a "young and energetic leader" in Russia. Of course, we were talking about a convinced democrat and liberal; he lived in Germany and even spoke German! What significance could his past service in the KGB have? She wrote about the crimes of the regime and its expansion into Europe, where they joyfully applauded it and hypocritically turned away from blood and corpses, pretending that they did not exist.
Anna, with her uncompromisingness and honesty, created problems precisely for “democratic” Europe, which did not want witnesses and uncontrolled dissident strangers, just as during the 2020 pandemic it did not tolerate the love of freedom and dissent of its own citizens, in 2023 it is trying to introduce censorship and the same control tools that already exist in Russia.

By January 2000, Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, resembled Dresden in 1945. But Western leaders have not turned their backs on Putin. On the contrary, they celebrated him as a "democrat of the purest water" (Gerhard Schröder) and a man "deeply devoted to his country" (President Bush). He was helped by the tripling of oil prices - for which we should thank the head of the Federal Reserve System, Alan Greenspan, with his “cheap money” policy. The West must make it clear to Putin that if some accident happens to Kasparov - say, if he gets hit by a car - then the world will not leave it like that. Bill Clinton made a mistake by inviting Putin to the G8, and now Western leaders lack the political will to kick him out. But his current maneuvers to maintain power should make it clear that Putin has disappointed the world's hopes of building democracy in post-Soviet Russia. They lamented Russia's political posturing, lack of business instincts, corruption, and underdeveloped human capital, but suggested that these problems should not stand in the way of increased cooperation. All three representatives described the inefficiencies they encounter in Russia. … For example, a Russian refinery is 3-4 times the size of a U.S. one, due to concerns that result in unneeded spacing between complexes because the Russians expect part of the refinery to explode sooner or later. Another example given was Lukoil's West Qurma project in which Lukoil plans to drill 500 wells with the same expected result as an American company could obtain with 70. One company representative bluntly said that most of his Russian workers over the age forty, unless they have spent significant time abroad or previously worked for an international company, are of little value. Their mindset and work practices, resulting from training and education in the Soviet period, are nearly impossible to change. One company has two adjacent projects with two different local partners. Is it really that difficult? Didn’t we all write about the same thing: Amalrik, Solzhenitsyn, and Sakharov? Isn't that what the Helsinki Groups were saying when they emphasized the connection between the first and third baskets of the Agreements: between security in Europe and human rights? Isn’t that what I wrote about in my 1982 brochure:

At the end of February 2008, the American Ambassador to Russia William Burns (in 2023 he is the head of the CIA) will send a cable describing the horrific state of Russian prisons. But there is a very strange phrase in the cable:
"Health conditions in Russian prisons are poor and infection rates for contagious diseases are much higher than in the general population, but surprisingly the mortality rate for men in these prisons is only one-third the rate on the outside - a statistic that says much more about the dangers of alcoholism and road safety than it does about healthy living behind bars." 2008, RUSSIAN PRISONS - https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/08MOSCOW531_a.html

All oppositionists agreed that it was completely impossible to engage in political activity in Russia. But even in Iran, where, according to Mr. McFaul, the regime is more repressive, the opposition is much more active than in Russia. Finally, Barack Obama's adviser decided to give the Russian opposition some advice. Thus, in his opinion, participation in elections is only a minor part of the democratic process, and the opposition should work with the population not only during the election campaign, but generally all the time. 2008, The Russian opposition was given an example of the Iranian one. One month after the meeting of the Russian opposition leaders with McFaul, a Soviet dissident and Russian human rights activist, one of the editors of the first dissident newspaper in the USSR, Chronicles of Current Events, Sergei Adamovich Kovalev, speaks at a conference organized by the EU with a speech whose qualitative and moral content differs sharply from arrogant and primitive manipulations of American chatterbox bureaucrat.

On April 16, 2008, the next round of consultations on human rights between the Russian Federation and the European Union took place in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Such consultations are held once every six months. This mechanism for discussing important aspects of the human rights situation in Russia and the EU countries, interaction in the field of human rights at the international level, began operating in 2005. Russia is represented by employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the European Union is represented by representatives of the so-called “troika”: the current EU presidency (currently Slovenia), the European Commission and the Council of the EU. From the very beginning, Russian non-governmental organizations sought greater transparency of these intergovernmental consultations and the participation of civil society institutions in them. The European Union, meeting the demands of Russian NGOs, invited them and representatives of foreign NGOs to a meeting on April 16 in Ljubljana just before the intergovernmental dialogue in order to find out and discuss the points of view of civil organizations on the issues under discussion. The official Russian delegation was invited to this meeting with the NGOs, but, unfortunately, refused to take part in it. SERGEY KOVALEV :"I intend to talk about the place of ideas and concepts of individual rights and freedoms in the practice and motivation of decisions of European bodies (as well as wider international institutions in which Europe plays a key role). In other words, the extent to which the activities of these organizations coincide with solemn declarations of high principles and priorities. Or, even more rudely, about the prevailing hypocrisy, which is fraught with very dangerous consequences. …. For more than 10 years, several Commissions of the Council of Europe in different compositions have been dealing with the problem of the military conflict in Chechnya. But the question of state terror, the only question adequate to the Chechen situation, was never openly raised; torture, falsification of charges, demonstrative impunity for war criminals, extrajudicial executions of kidnapped people - all this has been an element of Russian state policy in this conflict for many years. ….. Elections are the main instrument of democracy. Let's be blunt: there are no more elections in Russia. It seems that the United Europe would act with dignity and principle by impartially discussing Russian electoral legislation, the system of organizing elections, and electoral practice in the totality of its institutions. …. ... it would be reasonable to persistently propose that Russia agree on a detailed control procedure, including evaluation criteria, reasonably sufficient powers of inspectors, their required number, control periods - in a word, everything down to the smallest detail. ...Let Russia make a public choice - to sabotage such work, or to adopt an effective control system. 2008, Sergey Adamovich Kovalev, Oil, gas, political correctness (Sergey Kovalev: "L'UE e l'ipocrisia politica") - https://freedomfiles.substack.com/p/sergey-kovalev-lue-e-lipocrisia-politica
2 days after Sergei Kovalev’s speech, an article was published by another Obama advisor, about whom Vladimir Bukovsky wrote in his book Judgment in Moscow: “Strobe Talbot, who made Gorbachev the “man of the decade” in Time magazine, is now the main architect of relations with the East for President Clinton“ with a schizophrenic contradictory message: “everything is good, and then it will be even better, but in general everything is bad and this raises concerns.”
“US-Russian relations are on the rise,” says Strobe Talbot, president of the Brookings Institution and a renowned expert on Russia. He sees a clear desire on both sides to resolve differences, and this makes him confident that the next US president will help Russia become a member of the world's leading political and trading structures. …. At the same time, Talbot, who was Time magazine's correspondent in the Soviet Union in the 1980s, is concerned about restrictions on civil liberties in Russia. “In Russia today,” he says, “there is no genuine pluralistic democracy, civil society is in a deplorable state, there are no checks and balances on power, the system of the political vertical is being strengthened, and centralization is being revived. But once such a system no longer worked. I don’t think it will work this time either.” 2008, Strobe Talbot: US-Russian relations on the rise (Строб Талбот: Американо-российские отношения на подъеме) - https://www.golosameriki.com/a/a-33-2008-04-18-voa15/660106.html

The buyer was Delco Networks SA (Delco), registered in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The money to pay for the shares was taken from Delco's account in the Lithuanian bank UKIO Bankas and transferred to the account of Roldugin's company IMO in the branch of the Russian Commercial Bank (RCB) in Zurich. …. 27. Georgia’s Invasion, 2008
The Western liberal democratic nomenklatura expressed grief / regret / indignation / condemnation (underline what you like), but saw no reason to refuse or reduce the consumption of stolen natural resources. Gas, oil, aluminum, timber, diamonds, and rare earth elements continued to flow into world markets, and profits from sales contributed to the strengthening and further growth of the repressive regime in Russia.
Did the West somehow react to the Russian attack on Georgia?
Yes, the West opened his arms even wider to the Kremlin. An American diplomat sends a report on friendship and business between Berlusconi and putin, on the penetration and subordination of the Italian energy sector to Moscow:
❞
In its relationship with Russia, energy is the most important bilateral issue and the quest for stable energy supplies from Russia frequently forces Italy to compromise on security and political issues. …. From 1998 to 2007 Italian exports to Russia grew by 230 percent, from 2.7 billion Euros to 9.5 Billion. Many of Italy's leading businessmen began to see Russia as a limitless market that could substitute for loss of export revenue from other parts of the world. These businessmen maintain strong ties to the pro-business, free-market-oriented politicians on the right, including the most visible patron of Italy's business elite: PM Silvio Berlusconi. …. In 2008 the MFA undertook an effort to produce a long-term foreign policy strategy for the GOI [Government of Italy]. In a paper entitled "Rapporto 2020" the MFA outlined its strategic vision for the next decade and a half. …. calls for Italy to seek 'a privileged relationship' with Moscow in order to press its overwhelmingly preeminent bilateral concern: energy. …. ENI, Italy's most prominent energy parastatal, wields immense political power;… It hosts one diplomatic advisor assigned from the MFA. …. Members of political parties on both sides of the aisle have told us that ENI is one of the leading financial contributors to Italy's many think-tanks - many of which produce public diplomacy discussions and events on the importance of Italy-Russia relations. ….There is even suspicion that ENI maintains journalists on its payroll. …. according to ENI, the real threat to Western Europe's energy security is not Russia -- it is Ukraine. The real solution to Europe's energy insecurity, according to ENI, lies in more direct pipeline connections to Russian gas fields and a need for pipelines that do not go through Ukraine - the rationale for the South Stream and Nord Stream pipelines (ref b). McFaul, however, pointed to an extensive record of public statements and private interventions ... ... suggested that independent Russian NGOs [should] be allowed to help shape the discussion. ... In a frank exchange at the Embassy on January 14, a group of Russian civil society leaders told Senior Russia NSC Director Michael McFaul of their disappointment with what they perceive as a U.S. retreat on support of human rights in Russia.... Dzhibladze asked McFaul about the status of the Bilateral Presidential Commission (BPC) Civil Society Working Group. While inside Russia, in a lordly tone, McFaul inspired naive Soviet dissidents and Russian human rights activists, as well as dull oppositionists, that numerous statements of the Obama administration should be learned to be perceived as American democratic manna from heaven, meanwhile, Kremlin propagandists were hanging out at dinners and parties, the process of fraternization between security officers and by true American democrats was in full swing.

38. Salisbury’s poisonings and attempted assassinations, 2018

Former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned in the city of Salisbury in March 2018. Two local people, one of whom died, were later exposed to the nerve agent used in the attack, which evidence suggests was carried out by Russian military intelligence officers. .... But new figures show that in the two years after the attack, from April 2018 to April 2020, the UK government licenced £232-million worth of dual-use controlled exports to end-users in Russia. Such exports are defined by the government as “items which can be used for both civil and military purposes”. .... In 2019, the year after the Salisbury incident, UK ministers approved more controlled export licences to Russia than to UK allies like Germany and France. Russia had the fifth-highest number of British export approvals in the world. European Union sanctions on Russia, which the UK also imposes, restrict the export of items which can be used for military purposes. But the number of export licences for dual-use goods to Russia refused by ministers in 2019 was lower than in the year before the Salisbury attacks, suggesting that the poisonings failed to affect government decisions. Here is beautiful. Everyone has already become acquainted on Twitter with the freakish and nervously hysterical geopolitician, of retirement age, director of the US NATO think tank, Anders Aslund. He (maybe a secretary or assistant) constantly writes some tweets about the collective guilt of all (!) Russians, decolonization and other nonsense.
Apparently he has some kind of program to convince someone of something, and he acts according to the script. But it really looks like some kind of cheap circus, since he is an old friend of the Kremlin oligarchs, the same ones for whom the KGB opened a bank and who transported drugs.
These are very strange connections for someone associated with NATO, aren't they?:

A dozen prominent anti-Kremlin thinkers and activists have published an open letter condemning a major Washington research organization for hosting an off-the-record round-table dinner for two oligarchs listed on a U.S. Treasury-issued registry of 210 wealthy Russians identified as close to President Vladimir Putin. …. The Atlantic Council, which hosted Pyotr Aven and Mikhail Fridman, principals of the U.S.-sanctioned Alfa Group, published the condemnatory letter on its website before the private dinner Monday, which was internally billed as "an outlook for the Russian economy in an era of escalating sanctions."…. Event moderator Anders Aslund, resident senior fellow of the group's Eurasia Center, organized the talk. He described Aven and Fridman as "old friends" with whom he routinely meets. ….the only thing the West is capable of is loud verbal condemnation…. Russia, it seems, is not at all inclined to allow an investigation into the incident with international support. The authorities approach to the same tactics: smokescreens, denial, promotion of alternative theories. .... Just as was the case with the poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal in the UK or the downing of a Malaysia Airlines plane over eastern Ukraine, Moscow is diligently sowing doubt. ... During the Cold War, many in the West viewed the USSR as the enemy and acted accordingly. But today no one really considers putin an enemy, despite the fact that he constantly provokes the West. The idea of a new political structure of the world, based on law, a structure in the center of which is not the state, but the individual, his freedom, dignity and security, this idea is experiencing a global crisis. An alien observer of our political life would probably begin the list of universal values something like this: oil, gas, political correctness (i.e., the calm comfort of international officials)… As has already been said, the ideas of the new political paradigm have been pushed into the realm of pompous rhetoric, have become the subject of imitation in the political arena and serve the traditional hypocrisy of real politics. And, no matter how sad it is, we have to admit that all our efforts, all our sacrifices remained meaningless.
Ultimately, man proved unworthy of the freedom given to him, and at the decisive moment of trial he found neither the courage nor the sense of honor to rise to the task.
As a result, we did not become better, wiser, cleaner, and the test itself was nothing more than a gigantic earthquake that swallowed up hundreds of millions.
