How Zelensky started a war against Russian Dissidents and helped the Kremlin
08.08.2022 On that day, the hunting season for Russian citizens opened. There was an equalization dissidents with war criminals, victims with executioners... Who needed this and why?....

Dissidents turned into Dissidents in the Square
Let us not forget that violence does not live alone and is not capable of living alone: it is certainly intertwined with lies. Between them is the most kindred, the most natural deep connection: violence has nothing to hide behind except lies, and lies has nothing to resist except violence. Anyone who has once proclaimed violence as his method must inexorably choose falsehood as his principle. Once born, violence acts openly and is even proud of itself.
... It no longer always, does not necessarily directly strangle the throat; more often it requires from its subjects only an oath of lies, only complicity in lies.
And a simple step of a simple courageous person: do not participate in lies, do not support false actions! Let this come into the world and even reign in the world - but not through me. .
.. And as soon as the lie is dispelled, the nakedness of violence will be revealed disgustingly - and decrepit violence will fall.”
Alexander Solzhenitsyn, 19701
A year ago, an event occurred that will be recorded in the history of the Russian opposition. The dissidents2 trusted the policies of the neighboring state and... were stabbed in the back amid the hooting of a raging crowd, losing their humanity in a mad hysterics.
I tried to make a rough reconstruction of the main points.
We live in a world that is far from perfect: wars, corruption, judicial injustice, natural disasters and man-made and disasters - these phenomena exist in every country. Some of the incidents lie beyond the control and influence of both ordinary citizens and politicians. But the other part of the events is precisely in the field of responsibility, in the field of cause and effect of each of us and each of the politicians.
There are countries on our planet where authoritarian and totalitarian regimes openly neglect both human rights and basic rights to provide an atmosphere in which one can live and preserve one’s human dignity. In such countries there are dissidents, opposition activists and, as a result, political prisoners. The tools that accompany state repression in such countries are censorship and propaganda. Every dictatorial or totalitarian regime, to the best of its ability and solvency, tries to look less cannibalistic than it really is, and for this purpose tries to control the information that is disseminated about it abroad, adding advertising to improve its image, to attract investment, and to avoid sanctions. To carry out the task of “improving the image and enhancing the reputation”, foreign citizens are hired. Special people, for money (big or small depending on how many people subscribe to them, read, listen and watch) are ready to tell their audience (i.e. engage in propaganda activities in favor of a foreign State) that the state actually is N is not cannibalistic at all, but defends itself from powerful external enemies. And that political prisoners and dissidents are not at all fighters for democracy, for freedom, for rights and justice, but traitors, enemies of the people, traitors to the Motherland, spies, extremists and terrorists sent by powerful external enemies.
These individuals - lobbyists - propagandists - whitewashers, of course, will never say: “Hello dear TV viewers, I am a propagandist of State N, they paid me money (or have dirt on me that they threatened to reveal) so that I could tell you the story that they gave me“.
Instead, they appear before the public in different guises: journalists, political scientists, economists, geopolitical experts, historians, professors, researchers, Islamic scholars, writers, and so-called “Eastern Europe experts” - any format that inspires confidence because it has received some kind of public and professional approval, or looks like one. A gullible audience, if it does not have critical thinking, knowledge of foreign languages, as well as sufficient time to search and analyze information from alternative sources, will most likely be forced to agree and believe that the journalist who was imprisoned was in fact an ordinary extremist who threatened the entire State with his stories about the corruption of bureaucrats and politicians, and the man who went out into the street with a poster is a terrorist, because as many as 10 kilograms of explosives were found at his home, so what if he was a student, a volunteer for an animal shelter, and in a mouse hanged himself in his refrigerator, because newspapers and televisions CAN’T LIE SO blatantly and THEY WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY ACCURATELY TELLING THE TRUTH!? About how and why the media lie is a separate long conversation, if very briefly, Comrade Gref already explained this once (twitter)
Unfortunately, the institution of “useful idiots” has not only not disappeared in 100 years, but after a long and unscrupulous exploitation by television advertising and political propaganda, it has assumed enormous proportions to the delight of the States. But no matter how well the dictator’s lobbyist does his job, there remains the threat that his voice will be drowned out by another voice or a chorus of voices of victims of the regime who have received refugee status, a residence permit or even citizenship of the country, the same one in which the lobbyist lives and broadcasts.
For a lobbyist, they are a hindrance. Small or large, depending on how many such refugees are, how strong their unity is and how competently they can express and justify their civic position, build counter-arguments and not succumb to provocations and manipulations.
For a lobbyist, they are a threat. The threat of NOT making a profit, the threat of loss of reputation, the threat of losing an audience that will no longer trust.
What to do?
Dictators carry out completely different methods to combat their own dissidents located in the territory of foreign jurisdictions where freedom of speech applies: China, for example, organized secret police stations around the world and, unfortunately, this happened in direct cooperation with States that call themselves democratic. But most often, campaigns are organized to discredit both an individual and entire groups. Perhaps the only dissidents who enjoy the absolute trust and sympathy of all (normal, sane) inhabitants of the planet are refugees and opposition people from Afghanistan, a country where the materialization of the darkest, most destructive and most chthonic Evil so clearly occurred that no propaganda or lobby It will help, although someone is trying to pretend that there is nothing terrible there, but this is also a separate long conversation.
We are seeing group harassment and organized discrediting of dissidents from China happening - China lobbyists are spreading propaganda that all these dissidents are actually spies who should be sent back to China. With dissidents from Tibet (an independent country illegally annexed and occupied by China), Operation Doppelganger is taking place, which Anna Politkovskaya described in the article “The FSB EQUIPPED ITS HELSINKI GROUP.”[link to my translation in Italian, English translation is currently not available]
Wherever there are conferences against the occupation of Tibet, China brings its teams of scammer escort experts who deny everything that real Tibetan refugees say; China organizes its exhibitions on Tibet, where China's intervention is presented as the highest good and even creates fake monasteries, which replace the monasteries ancient, not controlled by Beijing. China is fighting dissident Uighurs from East Turkestan (illegally annexed and occupied by China) by discrediting them, declaring them terrorists and extremists who are only dreaming and seeing how to join Daesh, which is why China is hiding them in camps - saving the world from terrorists. Well, okay, yes, that’s caring for the public good on a planetary scale! We need to start doing this everywhere urgently! The ravings of a madman? “The theater of the absurd has reached its apogee”?
But many people like this idea. And someone even at the level of the President, and in some illiterate country, and in Europe, confirmed that yes it is necessary3.
What does this mean? The fact that useful (clinical) idiots are even in the chairs of heads of state.
Iran is fighting with its dissidents in different ways and through manipulation and provocations to achieve a split, then they are joyfully declared incompetent “what can we talk with you about if you can’t even agree with each other” and through the strengthening of marginal controlled groups, but most importantly through the lobbyists, who are working in every possible way against the regime of tightening sanctions. Here is a thread about one of them (twitter).
Now is the time to write abut the Russian opposition. How and who fights it?
In 20 years of putin’s regime only the Kremlin fought the opposition, but now the whole world is helping it in this, many on a volunteer basis. To one degree or another, combining all of the above techniques. Step by step.
On February 24, 2022, a terrible tragic and catastrophic event occurred. The chekist regime, which usurped power in Russia, attacked a neighboring country and began to kill peaceful, innocent citizens, women, children, men, and old people. All indiscriminately. The count immediately went into hundreds and thousands. The chekist regime began to destroy houses, schools, theaters, hospitals, entire cities...... I'm not sure that I fully understand how deeply traumatic this event was for me personally, because trying to analyze it brings me too much pain. After reading hundreds of comments from Russians who found the strength of spirit and the ability to describe their feelings, I realized that these were very similar experiences.
On February 26, 2022, Vladimir Zelensky recorded his message to Russian citizens in Russian:
"I want to be heard in Russia. Absolutely everyone. Thousands of victims, hundreds of prisoners who simply cannot understand why they were sent to Ukraine, sent to Ukraine to die, to kill others. The sooner you tell your authorities that war is necessary stop immediately, the more of your people will remain alive. We see that there are indeed protests by your citizens against the war. And we know that many in Russia are simply shocked by the meanness and cruelty of the authorities. And this is a very correct reaction. Thanks to Leonid Parfenov, Dmitry Muratov, Yuri Dud, Liya Akhedzhakova, Valery Meladze, and to thousands and thousands of other worthy Russians whose conscience speaks loudly."
March 15, 2022 Vladimir Zelensky commented on the situation with Marina Ovsyannikova (an employee of the state TV propaganda channel)
"I am grateful to those Russians who do not stop trying to convey the truth. And personally to that girl who entered the Channel One studio with a poster against the war"
March 23, 2022:
“And now I want to say separately to the citizens of the Russian Federation - I’m sure there are many among you who are disgusted by the policies of your state, who are simply sick of what you see on TV, of how your own propagandists on the Internet lie to you, propagandists, who are paid from your own taxes and lie about the war, which is paid from your taxes and which makes all the citizens of Russia poorer (...) You, citizens of Russia, are also interested in peace. Save your sons from the war. And if you can leave Russia so as not to pay your taxes for the war, do so."
March 27, 2022:
“Despite the fact that I am the president and should be a fairly pragmatic person, the attitude after the 24th has worsened... Despite the fact that I understand intellectually that [in Russia] there are many people who support Ukraine. (...) Attitude worsened in the entire population"
April 22, 2022:
“To be honest, the territory in which Russia should take care of the rights of Russian speakers is Russia itself. Where there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of choice, there is simply no right to a different opinion. Where poverty flourishes and where human life is worthless... Their dream now is to steal the toilet and die."
May 11, 2022:
“Accepting on your soil people with a Russian passport, and even more so those associated formally or informally with the Russian state, is a danger for all Europeans and also for the Maltese. (...) Block real estate, yachts and accounts that belong to Russians, the activities of Russian IT- and blockchain companies, Russian propaganda channels. These have long been, for the most part, not just businesses in Russia, but structures associated with the aggressive Russian state."
May 13, 2022:
“Now Russian tourists should receive a “cultural embargo” so that they know that they are not welcome. And so it is. In Europe, their society is not happy to see, and even those who were not on the battlefield, did not shoot, but are silent - support their leadership. They should be in a different comfort - no real estate in Italy, no bills (...) Ordinary people who come to rest should feel this: We must tell them that their vacation in Europe is over - you are occupying foreign territories, to the occupiers. You can’t have the same attitude as you treat other people.”
June 29, 2022:
"I believe that they [Russians] really have a big disease in general. This is a disease regarding respect for our people, a disease of seizing [territories], a disease regarding the kind of torture that they committed on our land. It seems to me that this is a difficult moment and this is not just one person's disease."
August 8, 2022:
“The most important sanctions are the closure of borders. Let them live in their own world until they change their philosophy. (...) Whatever kind of Russians they are... send them back to Russia. Then they will understand. They will say, "This [war] has nothing to do with us. The entire population cannot be held responsible, can it?" Maybe. The population elected this government, and they do not fight it, do not argue with it, do not shout at it."
The full chronology of Zelensky's messages can be read in the BBC article4
These messages, of course, raise many questions. Firstly, the war against Ukraine has been going on since 2014, before that the “Russian aggressive state” carried out military operations in Chechnya, Syria, Georgia - it seems that Zelensky either didn’t know about it, or didn’t think about it, or is repeating written by someone text.
The same goes for freedom of speech. It's like trying to impress an eminent scientist by saying "the sun rises in the east and sets in the west." “In Russia there is no freedom of speech and life there means nothing” - did anyone have any doubts?
Perhaps a huge part of the Western audience is not aware of the fact that Zelensky lived and worked in Russia for many years, and it is impossible that he didn’t know that power in Russia has been usurped, elections are faked, citizens regularly protest (Zelensky himself has never taken part in protests, including against the annexation of Crimea and the introduction of troops into Donbass, although activists from Ukraine came to the rallies and these protests received coverage in the Ukrainian media5), and they are persecuted in every possible way and RUSSIAN CITIZENS DO NOT HAVE THE SMALLEST INFLUENCE on those who make decisions.
Immediately after Zelensky’s last message, published in an interview with the Washington Post, was replicated around the world, I noted a sharp increase in the wave of aggression towards absolutely all Russians, who were instantly equated to war criminals and putin’s regimeregime. I spoke out in defense of anti-war Russians [on Twitter] and received a huge wave of terrible insults and threats against me. Insults sent in personal messages both from accounts with which I had a mutual subscription (and even correspondence!) and which all these 5 months saw me speaking out in support of Ukraine day and night, as well as from some unknown accounts with Ukrainian flags , who started writing to me in the comments that the Ukrainian Mossad (???) would find me and started sending me pictures with dismembered corpses.
Mass psychosis was clearly beginning. It was necessary to decide how to live further, whom exactly to help, and most importantly, how.
It was obvious that Zelensky was hitting the wrong target and was doing it completely consciously with some hidden calculation of his own. This was already clear by the fact that he influenced the defence of Kremlin oligarch Roman Abramovich and lobbied not to impose sanctions on him6, although a few days ago, thanks to an investigation by Project Media, it became known that Abramovich not only did NOT publicly oppose the war, but also tried to contrive and not be captured in photographs with putin after the start of the war, in order to save their looted wealth from sanctions7.
A year ago [red. - 2024 -2 years ago], I decided that while still maintaining the position that this war is a huge crime both against Ukraine, as well as against Russian citizens, I would nevertheless limit my public activities to speaking out against the criminal regime that unleashed terror against a neighboring country, as well as to supporting opposition-minded Russians, who began to be massively persecuted from all sides and in whose defense almost no one spoke out.
But the psychosis continued to grow; someone really needed a crowd that does NOT think, but goes in a herd, repeating crazy theses in chorus in a circle: - chauvinism - empire - colonialism - slave genes - all the same - there are no exceptions - Carthage - must - be - destroyed -decolonize-destroy-them-all—and this was no longer connected with the 24.02 war or with helping the Ukrainians, it was very reminiscent of a crowd scene in some kind of game (more precisely, the film CELL with John Cusack based on the novel by Stephen King, especially the scene where the crowd of zombies runs in a circle), and as always happens, in a huge crowd with their brains turned off, skillful shepherds make good money for their pockets.
Now, from new investigations, it has become known that the war is an agreement8, that the SBU is infiltrated by Kremlin agents9, and the Ukrainians themselves, who began to be persecuted and censored, have long asked Zelensky questions about his financial relations with Russia, which continued in a hidden way until 201910
But the best way to understand the situation is to use the method of clearing space from words, letters and sounds, and a banal analysis of numbers, even hypothetical ones at the level of logical constructions. If Ukraine is waging a war only with the invader soldiers who are present at the front, this is one mathematics, but if Ukraine is waging a war with a whole huge country, which is all like one big collective putin of 140 million people, then such a project will already need a budget of another bunch of zeros.
As you know, the hand(s) of the giver can also become rich in the process of helping11. In general, everything is in profit, of course, except for refugees and those who could not escape. Anti-war Russians with anti-putin rhetoric, who became friends with Ukrainians, did not really fit into this discourse (such a connection is even dangerous - what if they really prove that there is no point in fighting for ordinary people?), so the old formula, known for its impeccable work always and everywhere, came to the rescue: Divide et Impera.
Who are these opposition Russians who oppose the war, against whom Zelensky has opened a hunt?
Perhaps this is the most famous Russian in the United States, former opposition politician Garry Kasparov, who, after the annexation of Crimea, moved to the West and wrote the book “The Winter Is Coming,” 2015, in which he wrote that various geopolitical “experts” did not share his position on Russia, how possible is it that these were the same lobbyists for the dictators that I spoke about at the very beginning12? In 2023, in an interview with Dud Kasparov, he confirmed that when he was invited to participate in various talk shows and public events, he was strongly asked NOT to talk about the dictatorship in Russia because it harms financial and commercial relations between countries. By the way, about timing: when Garry Kasparov was persecuted by Kremlin, Zelensky was successfully doing business in Russia, receiving grants from the state budget of the Russian Federation.
Or maybe he want to send the most famous Russian in Europe, Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky, to Russia? Let me remind you that he spent 10 years in prison (2003-2013), since then he has been supporting and financing various projects aimed at developing civil society and who knows for sure that it is impossible to put an equal sign between the KGB regime and the citizens opposing it.
Who are the other Russians who need to be expelled according to Zelensky?
Maybe these are the journalists Meduza, Insider, Project Media, Agentstvo, Dossier Center, Novaya Gazeta and others (sorry, who I didn’t mention)? Or opposition politicians Lyubov Sobol and Mikhail Svetov, and others, against whom criminal cases have been opened in Russia?
Or human rights defenders, activists advocating for LGBTQ rights, for ending torture of prisoners, for improving the environment in critical regions of the country, or fighters against corruption? The biggest persecution on the Internet is against Alexei Navalny (despite the fact that he has been in prison since before the start of the war) and against his team of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, whose efforts have compiled a list of 6,000+ names directly working for the regime and for a long time, creating the conditions for this war. Navalny’s team is seeking the introduction of sanctions for them, and as is known from an interview with Vladimir Kara-Murza, those who lobby for sanctions are persecuted by the Kremlin and are opposed in every possible way by Western officials13
As many have already noticed, Ukrainian propaganda in terms of the level of construction of a parallel reality is catching up and even beginning to surpass the Kremlin’s. The function of switching attention and flows of hatred from internal problems to the “threat” from dissident refugees from a neighboring country - who left for other countries, happened masterfully, but how much did it help speed up the victory of Ukraine and the approach of the end of the regime, which will not leave Ukraine alone, as already could you guess from 2014?
The question is rhetorical.
The only ones who will benefit if the voices of anti-war Russians are not heard around the world are the Kremlin and Western officials affiliated with the Kremlin, who will always be able to influence their own media, but it is more difficult to silence refugees interested in ending the usurper regime, although everyone saw the situation with the closing of TV Rain.
The most important thing is that anti-war Russians continue to help Ukrainian refugees as much as they can, organize joint rallies and protests and do not pay attention to propaganda, which on both sides is directed precisely against them. Against ordinary citizens who have no power to influence anything except to save themselves and their family.
Zelensky did not stop at the claims to Russian citizens, most of whom are far from entertainment on yachts in Europe and who are thinking about how to make ends meet in a country with a regime increasingly choking in furious anger, on May 25, 2023, he addressed the citizens of Iran :
“I appeal to everyone - to society, the Iranian ulema, every Iranian family, those people who are able to influence the decisions of the government in Iran. A simple question: why do you want to be accomplices of Russian terror? Why are you on the side of the state that personifies evil?”
…. This question caused a storm of indignation among Iranian social media users. On Friday, hundreds of thousands of messages appeared on all platforms in which Iranians asked the Ukrainian president to carefully weigh his words.
... A group of independent journalists was one of the first to publish their reaction to the address of the Ukrainian president.
... This statement also states that from the very beginning of the Russian aggression, the Iranians supported the Ukrainians in every possible way, but it was the Ukrainian government that turned its back on the people of Iran and Ukraine when it took part in the ceremony celebrating the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, despite the fact that the progressive people of Iran demanded a boycott ceremonies.
In the vast majority of reviews, commentators call on Vladimir Zelensky to separate the people of Iran and the government.
"We regret the participation of the Islamic Republic in crimes against Ukraine. The people of Iran are unhappy that their money is being spent on kamikaze toys against you, but you have the wrong address. You should turn to those who supply you with weapons - the West. Only they can achieve changes in the behavior of the Islamic Republic,” writes user Shahram.
“If Ukrainians can stop the ongoing executions in Iran, we can also stop the supply of Iranian drones to Russia. For six months now we have been suffering and dying in street protests in Iran, and he [Zelensky] has placed us on the side of evil,” wrote a well-known Iranian cinematographer Doinia Madani.”
There are also those who consider the West guilty of directly supporting the Iranian regime.
“Mr. President, ask your financial and military sponsors to stop supporting the anti-human regime of Iran. The people of Iran have never interfered in your war and will not interfere,” calls a user under the nickname Behzadgholizadeh.
According to BBC correspondent Daryush Rajabian, Zelensky was considered a very popular figure among the opposition-minded population of Iran, and still remains so for many, but the reaction to his speech indicates disappointment in some circles.
“We just lacked a sense of guilt about the war in Ukraine. Consider this our inability to determine our destiny,” writes user Galammu.
Many write that they are categorically against Russian aggression in Ukraine and the supply of Iranian weapons to Moscow, but are simply powerless to do anything.
Meanwhile, Iranians living in Ukraine say that the attitude towards them in society has deteriorated sharply recently. Communication with officials has also become significantly more difficult, who, for example, have increasingly begun to refuse to extend a visa or process documents for no apparent reason.”14
I've gathered the main points together.
As I have said more than once: this is a war of nomenclatures, this is a geopolitical redistribution, as a result of which Europe is weakening (but Europe itself, with its own hands, for 20 years raised a chekist junta in exchange for cheap looted natural resources and pumped the KGB with money, sold weapons to the Kremlin under sanctions for the annexation of Crimea and police means to fight the civilian population. (Well, this is the result), strengthening the alliance of China-Russia-Iran-Brazil-Africa-Middle East.
But as long as millions of zombie users continue to write that the blame for everything lies on Navalny, on his team, on a grandmother from a village in a house without gas, “which is going every day to vote for putin and not overthrowing him”, the war will definitely continue and risks move to a more global level. Who will be to blame? Well, probably again some people who chose (because they have slave genes) to sit in a concentration camp and not overthrow evil dictators.
And finally.
We cannot know how long this war will last, when exactly the regime will end its existence, but we must, if possible, preserve ourselves, our integrity, our morality, not succumb to provocations and remember that Soviet dissidents had to go through difficulties that far exceeded our own. Be strong in spirit and do not give in to despair.
Irine Kuklina, 08.08.2023 (translated in English on 08.08.2024)
P.S. I forgot to add that the Iranian opposition is also accused of being fascists because they support the dictator. Still don't see the parallel?
