Leggere in italiano: La folla di intellettuali sotto la bandiera delle guerre che vanno di moda
Anna Politkovskaya, (30.08.1958 – 07.10.2006), the Russian journalist, writer, human rights activist was killed with 4 gunshots, 1 in the head - on putin's birthday. Anna's colleagues and friends interpreted her execution as if someone wanted to give a gift to the head of #KGBistan who, after having usurped power, was started suppressing dissent with increasing speed.

A crowd of intellectuals under the flag of fashionable wars
World journalism is in a severe ideological crisis. As long as we serve an ideology beneficial to the establishment, we are forced to live from one terrorist attack to another.
The long May holidays [red.- Anna refers to holidays in Russia 1st and 9th of May] were marked by two major international conferences on the same topic: “Media and Terrorism.”
The first was held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines (organized by UNESCO). The second is in Bonn, the former capital of Germany (organized by the German Fund for International Development on behalf of the federal government).
This abundance of conferences is no coincidence. For a long time, there has been something to talk about at the top of world journalism (the leadership of the International Federation of Journalists, the UNESCO Commission on Freedom of Information, the World Association of Newspapers, the Committee to Protect Journalists, editors-in-chief, etc.). What to do next?
What to do with those tragic circumstances for the profession, when the “war on terrorism” declared after September 11 required colleagues to actually abandon the main principles of the profession? After all, you can no longer bother yourself with such a difficult task as collecting comprehensive and complete information about an event, which was so strong in the Western media, but simply be conceptual ideologists like CNN or BBC, participating in a large and now honorable global brainwashing - and therefore , at the scene of events, only select the facts to fit the scheme, in accordance with the old Bolshevik slogan: “Those who are not with us are against us.”
Manila
The Philippines met us with severe tropical heat, clogging the lungs with 100% humid atmosphere, and... the same 100% ears caulked with ideology. If the top figures of world journalism were talking about anything, it was about a new ideology, which they are ready to serve with every fiber of their soul - that is, about the full support by the media of the world campaign “against terrorism”...
"We must..."
"We must..."
“We are on the forward flank...”
This was the essence of the speeches: “We love you, propaganda!” Hour after hour from the conference rostrum, if anything was sung, it was a stormy hosanna to the “war on terrorism” and to those heroes who are waging it, and, of course, to its methods.
The situation was felt like the next second, the red flag would be brought out, the pioneers would come out with a drum, and everyone would give a salute to each other - as a sign of universal solidarity... And here the personalities are not at all important - who specifically said “we must”, and who said “we must ", the main thing is the vector of movement of world journalistic thought of the May 2002 model.
And this vector, paradoxically, absolutely “ours”, Soviet: from ideology to facts, and not vice versa. This is exactly what is now in fashion in the advanced West.
And in Manila there was no word more popular than “propaganda.”
But what about the “other voice”, the other world? Seemingly traditional Western respect for dissent? No dialogue of civilizations, which was so desired and for which, in principle, it was worth flying so far, to the Philippines, did not work out.
The speech of Sultan Ahmad Bakhin, director of the state news agency of Afghanistan "Bakhtar", sank into icy silence from the audience. He asked:
where were all of you, with your screams and tears, before? When the Taliban were rampant in our country, and “we were in prison”? And why did your campaign against terrorism begin only after September 11, only when thousands of your people paid with their lives for the fashion for this campaign? Where is the objective information from Afghanistan now, which is that although several thousand Taliban have been captured, 75 thousand are free and continue to think the way they thought before September 11?
It turns out that the Western media played a fashionable play, and everything that was not squeezed into the script was simply cut off, not wanting to think about what exactly was cut off, perhaps posing an even greater danger to the future of humanity? That new terrorists are being created today by those who fight them using the methods chosen?..
The questions were unanswered. The speech of, without a doubt, one of the most informed people on the planet - a representative of the Qatari private television company Al Jazeera, which was persecuted by the United States for only giving the floor to the other side... At the Philippine conference, he was greeted with only cold polite applause. Al Jazeera, by the way, asked for help, rightly noting that the world should at least know whom it was fighting, and did not receive this help...
Nedal Mansour, editor-in-chief of the Jordanian newspaper Al-Hada and president of the Jordan Center for the Defense of Freedom of Journalists, also could not withstand the ideological ringing. He apologized to the audience and began to speak in Arabic, although he speaks excellent English, as a sign of solidarity with those millions who were clumsily classified as “Islamic extremists” at the conference.
Nedal also asked the audience unpleasant questions that they did not want to ask themselves:
what exactly is terrorism after September 11, who is a terrorist, where is justice here, what is considered “occupation terrorism”, “state terrorism”, or is it now just “terrorism in order to achieve freedom, independence and security”? And he urged the public to at least think about why young Arabs choose death like kamikazes rather than life.
Is it because, for example, they see no other way out in the current situation, when skin color, hunchbacked nose and black hair are equated by the international crowd as signs of belonging to terrorist organizations?..
The Jordanian colleague was met with the same coldness as the Afghan one. The Philippine heat receded before this frosty breath, spewed by the audience with its righteous anger in favor of the fashionable war in Afghanistan. The people of the West, and its intellectual part, continued to talk about the need for an uncompromising fight against Islamic terrorism, when the goal may well be considered to justify the methods.
And who would have thought that the very West that fought so hard against Soviet Bolshevism would become its biggest admirer some ten years after its fall...
Bonn
If anything has changed in Germany, it’s only the faces and interiors. The themes and general sentiments remained the same. The most active brainwasher in the “right” direction here turned out to be Jamie Shea, the information and ideological chief of NATO, with a speech “NATO’s War on Terrorism,” where he spoke just like our Sergei Yastrzhembsky, the domestic person responsible for brainwashing about Chechnya.
From the Bonn speeches, in general, it turned out that now there are fashionable wars in the world - in Afghanistan and the Palestinian-Israeli war, where everything is clear and “journalists work for history.” And there are unfashionable ones, like our second Chechen war, which is extremely confusing about who is who, and is also painfully going on for the 31st month in a row, accompanied by obvious military crimes and therefore completely unpopular for coverage.
Especially after September 11, when Bush became friends with putin on the basis of a common “uncompromising” understanding of “anti-terrorist” goals and objectives and leading media outlets and foreign reporters finally stopped traveling to Chechnya.
— Still, why are you not interested in covering Chechnya? – I asked most of my colleagues in Bonn.
— Because there is no basis there for serving the new world ideology,- they answered honestly.
Who tried to object? Firstly, Grigory Yavlinsky, the leader of YABLOKO, now banned from any broadcast on Russian state television channels - for his sound thoughts and the ability to express them.
Secondly, Hamid Mir, editor-in-chief of the Pakistani newspaper Ausaf, is the same journalist who will be remembered in history as the only one to see and make interview with bin Laden after 9/11.
And that's almost all. The rest were in chorus.
International agitprop
...Isaac gave birth... Leah gave birth... Rachel... We are talking with Sultan Ahmad Bakhin, director of the Afghan agency “Bakhtar”, about who, in fact, “gave birth” to whom from today’s “world evil” personalities. Sultan was 10 years in prison “during everone’s reigns,” from the Soviet invasion to the Taliban.
We agree that the main thing is to understand the origins, and Bush and putin today skillfully obscure them - as ideologically not beneficial to them.
After all, ALL current world problems No. 1, resting against the monumental wall of the so-called “war on terrorism,” were essentially born of the Soviet-Afghan war of late communist times. The Soviet Union then really wanted to get to the shores of the Persian Gulf, and also to tame Iran with its Iranian revolution, and for this purpose it came up with a story about “international debt” in Afghanistan. And away we go...
“Ours” entered a place where it was strictly forbidden to enter. The Americans, in order to fight “ours,” responded by nurturing bin Laden, among many other people like him. Meanwhile, “ours” - military personnel from among the “limited contingent” - killed the darkness of the Afghan people and thus not only gave birth to their own enemies forever, but also acquired experience in killing the civilian population, and now, in Chechnya, the overwhelming majority of senior officers, those who implement plans for ethnic cleansing are precisely the “Afghans” who learned what they shouldn’t do there, in the Afghan war...
And hence most of “our” problems with the methods by which the second Chechen war is being waged, breeding only resistance members who want revenge and are waiting in the wings... And then “our” games began with Ahmad Shah Massoud, the so-called “Pandsherian lion”, whom we armed ourselves from head to toe, despite the fact that he was the largest drug dealer in the former USSR and in many ways it was “thanks” to him that in the mid-90s we lost so many young people in the heroin flames... But then it was “ours” again the ideology is important - that Masud is opposing the proteges of the Americans... And they continued to court Al-Qaeda so that there would be a counterbalance to Masud and others.
And then all of them - both “our” Massoud and “their” bin Laden - began to get out of control, grew up and matured. They managed to kill Masud - right on the eve of September 11, but not bin Laden... How can we now admit that we ourselves did all this... We are superpowers.
This, in fact, is the whole play, in which today world journalism is not just present, but ideologically ensures the recent catastrophic mistakes of the ruling elite and intelligence services.
Blessing such superficially lightweight approaches, in which the world is doomed to terrorism, because it does not fight it, but, putting blinders on its eyes, breeds it.
The evidence for this is here, in Chechnya, under the guise of Kremlin agitation and propaganda. Here in Afghanistan, to the accompaniment of the Western media, which are aggravating the most acute civilizational crisis.
